Shoes anyone?

It is not a secret...Kelvin can shop with the best of them. He can shop Susie to the ground and still be looking for a great bargain. Over Christmas it was time to purge a couple of pairs of shoes. Shown below are 18 of the 21 pairs of shoes Kelvin currently owns. After pulling them all out, he had to decide on keeping just 15. The 6 pairs were sadly sent off to good-will.

The Bacon Weave

So, credit needs to be established first. Kelvin first received a link to this concept from Charles Notley whom he used to hometeach in the Stanford Single's Ward back in 2001. The idea sounded like something we all could not pass-up during Christmas. The original link content is what could be described as, PG-13.

Because of the way the bacon was shaped, Kelvin ended up doing a 6x7 sized square of woven bacon.

Kelvin thought it would be tough the flip the assembly but it was fairly easy with a pair of chopsticks (those asians...so typical) The original link had this cooked in the oven.

The cheese melting and the smell was just to die for.

Rolling it was fairly easy. It was folded such that it could be as long as it could be.

As you can see in the close-up...all yummy goodness. They were quite good. Everyone had a little piece for breakfast.

Happy Birthday Kelvin!!

The 18th was Kelvin's official birthday. Susie did a great job of trying to down-play anything big. The plan was to have Lindy come by the house after work and watch Simon at 4:30 so Kelvin and Susie could go and watch the New James Bond Movie (Quantum of Solace) which was actually really good. After the movie the plan was to bring back some take-out and enjoy some games with the Burgons.

I came back and apparently there was a big group of close friends for a surprise party. Susie made Kelvin's favorite banana cream pie at Paula's house the day before. Susie genuinely surprised Kelvin...kudos to her!!!

Amazingly, this bowling pin made its presence again at the Ning House. This is the birthday bowling pin from Pacific's Sea Bowl. It originally belonged to Jared and Kelly Salter while they were in San Francisco. Kelvin won it from them in a bowl-off. It later went to Jared Peterson for his birthday, then to Kelvin again, then Geoff Benton (from whom the Nings suspect gave it back)
Thanks so much for the love expressed by all the friends. Facebook really kept most people up to date on Kelvin's birthday. Thanks again also to all those who were able to make it mid-week to drive down from San Francisco. The evening was definitely memorable.

Cities & Knights Victor

For those that are in the know, about 40 minutes ago, I, Kelvin, won Cities and Knights for the first time in the year 2007.

The first place loser was Jared Peterson with 12 points. And pulling up the rear was David Parker with 8 points.

For those that were keeping track, we've played quite a bit this year (almost weekly) and taught a lot of people and showed them how to win. Before this day, the last time I won a game was in Mallorca, Spain, playing against Jared and Kelli Salter just before Christmas.

I would like to thank Jared and David, who recognized I was winning, and put up a huge fight to make sure I wouldn't win it by a landslide. For about the last 6 rounds, no one would trade with me, and they did all that they could to thwart what was to be my day. At least, it was not won uncontested.

All Hail Lord Kelvin of Catan...
